The numbers, straight up: June 1–7
We went 6–13 and finished down 11.95 units. No spin on that. It was our worst stretch in a while, and it’s exactly the kind of week that separates people who actually run a process from people who only believe in one when it’s winning.
Here’s precisely what happened, because showing the math is the whole point of how we do this.
Where the damage came from
Most of our card was small. Nine of our thirteen losses were 1-unit plays, the bread-and-butter bets where variance gives and takes and you live to fight the next day. Those didn’t sink us.
What sank us was a handful of bigger-stake spots that missed in the same window: a 3-unit play on the Reds (final: Cardinals 6, Reds 5), a 2-unit Royals side, and a 2-unit White Sox side. Four bets did most of the bleeding. When you size up on your higher-confidence reads and they all land on the wrong side of a seven-day window, the math gets ugly fast. That isn’t a process failure. It’s the cost of conviction showing up in a bad week.
Several of these were late-inning collapses: the Reds bet was a one-run loss, 6–5, the kind of game we were in good shape to win before a bullpen or a single swing flipped it. Those sting the most because they feel like they were ours. But a blown lead in the 8th counts exactly the same as a blowout, and we don’t get to relitigate it.
Why we’re not changing anything
Here’s the part that matters. We are not adjusting the formula. We’re not chasing. We’re not pressing to win it back. We’re not leaning on gut over the numbers, which is the exact trap that blows up every bettor who’s ever quit during a downswing.
The edge we play is a long-run edge. Long-run means there are weeks, sometimes a few in a row, where variance runs against a perfectly sound process. The discipline is being the same bettor on a −12 week that you are on a +12 week. Same sizing logic. Same model. Same patience.
Everyone else writes from gut and ego, doubles up after a bad Sunday, and tells you they “feel” the bounce-back coming. We don’t. We let the math keep working, because over a season the math wins. This week was the tax you pay for that.
